When can I pick up my items?
All pick ups must be scheduled in advance. Porch Pick Up is available when the library is open. In rare instances, Porch Pick Up may be postponed, or hours adjusted, due to extreme weather. The last of pick up slot will be 30 minutes before closing.
Who can use Porch Pick Up?
All current Avalon Library card holders may request items for Porch Pick Up. If you need a card or need to renew your card, use this form or give us a call at 609-967-7155.
What can I borrow?
There is a limit of 10 items per cardholder and they need to fit in to the book drop for return. Items such as Discovery Kits, Bakeware, most Tech Loans, and Museum Passes are not eligible for Porch Pick Up.
How does Porch Pick Up work?
- Reserve items via the catalog online or by calling 609-967-7155 between 10am and 5pm.
- Once your items become available you will be notified and have the chance to select a pick up window, either via a link in your email hold notice or when we call to notify you of the hold. You will only be able to pick up your items during your selected window. Need to change it? Just give us a call.
- When you arrive during your Pick Up time, park in the library parking lot and walk up to the open porch.
- Check the cart for a bag with your name. Take care not to touch other bags.
- Check the items to confirm they are correct. If you have any issues, give us a call 609-967-7155
Can I send someone to pick up my items?
Our Porch Pick Up will be contactless so an ID will not be required. In order for this program to remain sustainable, we urge everyone picking items up to make sure you only touch/take the bag with the name of correct card holder. You may pick up items for multiple cards, but must schedule a pick up for each card holder.

What if I have items on hold but do not want to use the Porch Pick Up service?
If we call to schedule a Porch Pick Up and you prefer to wait until library access is available, we will move the hold to the next patron and place you back on the list. We do not currently have a date for resuming in-person library use.
What if I no longer want to check out the items I have on hold?
Please call 609-967-7155 and press 2 for the circulation desk.
Will there be fines?
During this situation, the Library Trustees have temporarily suspended fines for library materials. We ask that you return items as promptly as possible to allow other patrons access as soon as possible, given the need to quarantine returned items. Hotspots may be deactivated if kept beyond the due date.
Where do I return items?
You may only return items via the drive-up/walk-up drop boxes, which have 24-hour access. All items will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours before being placed back on shelves. Please allow 72 hours before your account will show your items as returned.
I returned my items, but my account says they are not checked back in yet.
We are placing all returned items into quarantine for 96 hours before checking those items in. Your items should be marked returned shortly after that time period.
What are the precautions your staff is taking?
All staff members are required to wear a face mask and will practice social distancing from other staff members and members of the public while executing Porch Pick Up service. All items checked back into during this time will be placed in a 96 hour quarantine before being placed back on shelves.
How do I renew my library card online?
All library cards must be renewed every two years. You can use this form to renew while we are closed, or once we are open, give us a call at 609-967-7155.
Can I still put items in the outside book drop?
Yes. Our outside book drop boxes will remain open. Library staff will check in any items put in outside book drops. All books will be placed in quarantine for 96 hours before being placed back on shelves.
