History Center Kids' Mini-Camps

Understanding and appreciating the past is a great skill for young minds and the Avalon History Center makes this fun and engaging with the Kids’ Mini-Camps they co-host with the Avalon Free Public Library during the summer. These free sessions focus on hands-on learning and interactive activities to promote kid power and learning about local history, the environment, civic engagement and more.

Kids’ Mini-Camps are held at the History Center (215 39th St.) and registration is required. For registration and information please call 609-967-0090.


Challenge Island: The Boston Tea Party

6/26 @ 10am

In alignment with the 250 year celebration of the American Revolution, join Challenge Island to recreate the Boston Tea Party of 1773 at the Avalon History Center. Challenge Island's S.T.E.A.M. program will explore the who, what, when and where of the event, and challenge kids to make their own protesters, ship and catapult launchers to recreate the event. The event turns all fun when kids write their own rules of a game and compete with the other STEAM Teams. It is sure to be an amazing challenge!

Painter for a Day at the Museum

7/24 @ 10am

Join the Avalon History Center for a peek at what Avalon looked like back in the late 1880s and how Avalon, your beautiful summer resort, was born. Through incredible photos, drawings and paintings, the museum team will take you back to a time when Avalon looked more like a heavily forested land with surprise fresh water lakes and streams all over the island. Wear your grubby clothes & get ready to paint!

Junior Curator

Kids ages 7-12 are invited for a morning of learning at the History Center hosted by its Curator Bonita Risley. What is a Curator? What is History? Why and how do we record history? Learn how you can record your own history for the future by creating your own time capsule.
