Motown underwent numerous transformations in the 1970s, from moving its location (from Detroit to Los Angeles) to transforming its sound for rapidly changing times.  Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross emerged as the major stars of the label, while funk and disco became dominant.  However, classic Motown artists such as Smokey Robinson and the Temptations still held their own.  For the first time, Motown CEO Berry Gordy permitted lyrics with more political and sexual themes on his label. The History of Motown: 1970-1980 will take listeners on a tour through this pivotal decade not only for the label, but for music and culture. The video below will be available starting July 13, 2021 and remain up through July 27, 2021.
