Advanced Genealogy Workshop

Advanced Genealogy Workshop: Tuesdays April 15th, 22th, 29th from 7-9 p.m.

   This program is for those who have taken the basic genealogy classes or have genealogical research experience. Presented by Casey Zahn, trustee of the Genealogy Society of South Jersey. Class one: Immigration and naturalization records. Class two: Land records. Class three: Divorces, wills and guardianships. Class size is limited to 20 so call now to sign up! (609) 967-7155.

American Girl Doll Play

American Girl Play

Thursdays- 3:45 – 4:45 pm

Play will be presented Monday, May 12 at 5pm

Come to the Avalon Free Public Library and meet the newest American Girl Doll, Julie, a fun-loving nine-year old from San Francisco in 1974. This free activity is open to elementary school aged boys and girls. If you are interested in performing or working back stage, please register. Boater Safety Course

The Avalon Free Public Library is offering the Boater Safety Course on Saturday,  April 5, May 3, May 17, June 21, and July 26. Class hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Senior Center. Members of the U.S. Delsea Power Squadron will be teaching the basics of safety such as seamanship, boat handling, boat types, rules of the road, navigation aids, regulations, adverse conditions, trailering and introductory piloting. Upon successful completion of the exam, the NJ Boater Safety Certificate will be issued.

Classes are limited to 20 people. Registration is required by calling Frank Leone of the Power Squadron at 609-398-2649. Course is free. Payment of $25 for materials and license fees must be received for registration to be complete.

Shakespeare & Improv

June 24, July 1 and July 8 - Improv and Shakespeare (Intro to Shakespeare's Text, Acting, & Theater) - 6:30 - Library

"Shakespeare & Improv" is a workshop on Shakespeare and acting designed for high school students and adults with an interest in theater, beginning or advanced. You will explore Shakespeare (his life, times, and scenes from his plays) and acting-improvisation, and blend both through readings, discussion, and scene work. Please come dressed comfortably, to move, Class size limited; please call to reserve a space. This is one of a series of  three Tuesday evening workshops. You are encouraged to attend all three if possible. Instructors Mark Lang and Alison J. Murphy are New York based professional actor-teachers who have worked extensively with the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival and the East Lynne Theater Company in Cape May. Symphony by the Sea -- Bay-Atlantic Symphony

The Bay-Atlantic Symphony is returning to Avalon this summer with the Symphony by the Sea series. The library is sponsoring 2 full symphonic concerts:

July 12 - ITALIAN OPERA EXTRAVAGANZA - features beautiful music and extraordinary voices from a variety of Italian operas, including La Boheme, La Traviata, and Tosca, sung by tenor and soprano. August 23 - TCHAIKOVSKY JUBILEE - includes the breathtaking Symphony No. 4 and the extraordinary Violin Concerto to be performed by Amy Beth Horman. Concerts are free, but require tickets which will be available after June 1. For more information call 967-7155.
